The City of Flatonia will be holding a special election in conjunction with the general election on May 10, 2008. The special election will be for the unexpired term of the seat that Jeff M. Hairgrove vacated when he accepted the appointment as mayor. This position is for a one year term, ending in May of 2009. Whoever fills that seat will have to run again for the seat next year. There are separate filing deadlines for that seat. In the general election, the seats that are up for election this year are mayor and two council members. The mayoral seat is currently held by Jeff M. Hairgrove. The two council seats that are up for election are currently held by Carlene Carlock and Len Waska.
The first day to file an application for a place on the ballot for both elections is Saturday, February 9, 2008. This is also the first day to file a declaration of write-in candidacy. The last day to file an application for a place on the ballot for the special election is March 4, 2008. The last day to file an application for a place on the ballot for the general election is March 10, 2008. These dates are mandated by state law.
Please come by City Hall at 125 E. South Main, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm to pick up information for filing for any of these positions. When filing, please remember to specify if you are filing for the special election or the general election.
